Background
In the last two decades international collaboration among the scientific community has led to quantum changes in the biological knowledge and genetics resources for barley. In 2006 the International Barley Genome Sequencing Consortium was formed with representatives from principal researchers around the world.

There are three main targets of the UK Barley Sequencing Consortium presently in progress: the Barley Genome Browser, Genome assembly, variant discovery and annotation and Generation of an extensive transcriptome reference atlas.
